Bench R at Kuse Nature Preserve
At one time, a large oak grew near this area. It was cut and made into lumber that was used in the Kuse house. Walter Kuse allowed young oak trees to remain standing. They have grown in size and remind us of the old oak tree that once was there. Feel the bark of the two trees, note their shapes and size.
Red Oak
Red oak, red oak
Sturdy, straight, and strong
Your leaves so bright and gold
I've admired oh, so long.
They soon become
A lovely brown,
Giving earth
A lovely gown.
Loretta Kuse
Milkweed grows nearby. Monarch butterflies are attracted to it.
