Bench J at Kuse Nature Preserve

Small wood lots provide important habitat for wildlife. The small grove behind this bench is sometimes inhabited by the Great Horned Owl, crows, Pileated Woodpeckers and deer.

Early surveyors who came through this area indicated that there were Yellow Birch trees in the area. Perhaps some of the Yellow Birch trees behind this bench are descendants of the trees identified in the 1800's.

Spring ephemerals, such as Spring Beauties and Wood Anemones, bloom when there are few leaves on the trees.
