Flying Foxes

Flying foxes were harmless, large fruit bats that ate bananas and papayas. Their heads looked like those of foxes and the animals had wing spreads of several feet. At night people could hear the sound of their wings flapping in the air. The sound was like the clapping of hands.

Here students carried the bats they caught on a stick. They prepared and ate them.
