Northern Leopard Frog at Kuse Nature Preserve

Northern Leopard Frog

Rana pipiens

Northern Leopard Frogs are usually green with dark spots on their backs, sides and legs. There are two ridges on their backs.

Females lay several thousand eggs and males fertilize them as they are attached to plant or other underwater material.

The call is a chuckling sound, like a finger rubbed on a balloon.

The swift movement of the frog's tongue helps it catch insects.
